Kennedy Center Evening

Kennedy Center

I went to see a performance of the Shen Wei Dance Arts in the Eisenhower Theatre at the Kennedy Center. Although Shen Wei was involved in choreographing the opening ceremonies of the Olympics in Beijing, these pieces were not showy or on a grand scale; rather, they were intimate, intricate, and hypnotic. They were also extremely physical in a modern vein, with a vocabulary of movements at least in part evolved from Twyla Tharp and Mark Morris but not in the least tritely derivative. I would definitely go to another performance of this company.
