A vine grows in Arlington, VA.

I had originally intended to post something specifically related to the anniversary of the attacks of September 11th, to perhaps join others in sharing my memories of that day and reflecting on how it changed me and my society. But I thought Otis at Rapid Eye Reality did a really good job, and in a just-right tone, so I’ve decided to refrain this time. Maybe on the 10th anniversary I’ll chime in.

Instead, I offer this picture. (Selective color is something of a cliche, and I’m not sure it works here, but sometimes my eye and brain separate something from the background in a way that a straight-ahead photograph just can’t, and selective color is a way to emulate that.) I was entranced by this tendril, bursting and brimming with life force, exploring its world with uninhibited vigor and springy grace. The plant is fearless in its reaching for the light.

Let us go forth and do likewise.
