Despite not being an especially social person, I realize that I’ve added communities to my life pretty regularly. When I worked for the Smithsonian, I was fortunate enough to make splendid friends among my co-workers. When I joined my church, St. Columba’s, I entered into another expansive and supportive community that has sustained me ever since. It turns out, too, that the community of poker players is remarkably tight and mostly friendly.

When I started exploring textile design, I soon realized that there was a huge network, a really strong interconnected web, of folks out there on the internet interested in fabric, design, sewing, quilting, fashion. It’s enormous and chockfull of energy, enthusiasm, excitement, and enterprise. I look forward to becoming a more active participant in that community in 2011.

Hey I recognize that plaza :) I thought it was supposed to be an ice-skating rink by now. Hmm…
