Falling Water

Outdoor fountain.

In winter, we are enchanted and hypnotized by flames dancing in the fireplace. Like our ancestors around the cooking fire, we find rest from our labors and peace for our anxious minds in structured yet constantly changing shapes that form seeds for our imaginations and spark a thousand stories. The fire’s crackle punctuates our tales and calls us back to the warmth and light of the moment.

In summer, it is the cool movement of water that beguiles our brains, soothes us to afternoon sleep, and inspires wandering daydreams. The paradox of falling water, which seems to have a constant body and yet is made of infinite changing particles in perpetual movement, tickles our cognitive faculties. The sound of water falling into water provides the calming white noise that sets our fancies free.
