At The Beach

Despite the overwhelming importance of the water to Key West, it’s not primarily a beach culture. The easily accessible beaches are small, not especially sandy, and the water’s often clogged with seaweed. There’s no surfing or close-in snorkeling to be had.

But the beaches draw the beach types anyway, like the old salt depicted above.

It’s hard to see at these sizes, but there are four people in this picture, each interacting with the environment in his or her own way.

And then there are the couples. Some are in Key West to marry or witness a wedding. Others are just getting away together. The symmetrical mirroring of this pair bodes well for their future, I think.
