One of the truly fabulous resources for a person who has just moved to a new city and doesn’t know anyone is Meetup. You can find like-minded folks and interesting things to do incredibly easily. And in a place like Asheville—where people are just ridiculously welcoming, friendly, and helpful in general—Meetup is a veritable cornucopia of delights.
I went to a meetup last night for a newly formed group. As part of an ice-breaking exercise, we were all asked to draw a pig. Fun! I intended my piggy to be smiling heartily and enthusiastically whilst gamboling energetically.
Yeah. Well. I’d had kind of a stressful day (housebuilding-related, of course) and I ended up with a lean & hungry piggy who looks like he hasn’t slept in a week and is on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Really, only his ears are kind of perky. It looks like you could open a bottle of wine with his tail… and come to think of it maybe that’s not such a bad idea, eh?
Honestly, for the most part things are going pretty well. This week I’ve just got a big pile of important stuff all happening at once. This too shall pass.
Excelsior, little piggy, excelsior!
